Nothing about how your Wix store looks will survive the move to Shopify. Not the layout, not the fonts, not the clever strip you built in the editor. Wix and Shopify use completely different design systems, and no tool converts one into the other.

That sounds worse than it is. When you go from Wix to Shopify, the parts that make you money (products, customers, content, rankings) move fine. The parts that break are predictable, and most of them you’d want to rebuild anyway.

Here’s what transfers, what doesn’t, and the 14-day plan we’d follow.

When moving from Wix to Shopify makes sense

Wix vs Shopify isn’t a fair fight in either direction. Wix is a website builder that sells. Shopify is a store that also has pages.

Move when you’ve hit one of these walls:

  • Checkout and payments need more control than Wix offers: local payment methods, subscriptions, B2B terms.
  • You sell in more than one country and need per-market pricing, currencies and languages.
  • Your catalog is growing and bulk editing, inventory and fulfillment are eating your week.
  • You need an app Wix doesn’t have for reviews, bundles, loyalty or ERP.

Stay on Wix if you sell a handful of products next to a service business and your store isn’t the main event. Moving costs money and a few weeks of attention. Spend it only if the store is holding you back.

Takeaway: migrate because of a wall you’ve actually hit, not because Shopify is “the serious option.”

What transfers cleanly (and how)

Data Transfers? How
Products (titles, descriptions, images, prices, SKUs) Yes Store Migration app, CSV or migration app
Variants with up to 3 options Yes Same
Customers (name, email, addresses) Yes Same, passwords excluded
Historic orders Yes, with an app Cart2Cart, LitExtension and similar
Blog posts and pages Yes Migration app or copy-paste for small sites
Reviews Yes, via a review app Judge.me, Loox, Yotpo import
SEO titles and descriptions Yes, with care Mapped field by field
Domain Yes Point DNS or transfer registration

Shopify’s own Wix migration guide recommends its Store Migration app for products and customers, though it’s still in early access and not available to every store. For order history it points to third-party apps like Cart2Cart’s Wix Migration App, LitExtension, EZ Importer and MigrationPro.

Takeaway: your data is portable. Plan the effort around what isn’t.

What breaks when you migrate Wix to Shopify

This is the section most migration guides rush. Don’t.

Your design

There is no “import my Wix design.” You’ll rebuild on a Shopify theme. For most small stores that’s a premium theme customized with your brand, not a custom build. Our theme customization guide covers how far sections alone can take you.

Product options and modifiers

Wix allows up to six product options per product. Shopify allows three option axes (with up to 2,048 variants). Shopify’s help center confirms products with more than three options won’t have their options imported.

Wix also has modifiers, customer inputs like engraving text that don’t create a new SKU. Shopify has no native equivalent in the product editor; you need line-item properties in the theme or an app.

Prices by location

Shopify’s Store Migration app doesn’t support Wix’s prices by location. Affected products are set to their highest price. Rebuild regional pricing with Shopify Markets after import.

Wix apps, Velo code and forms

Wix Bookings, Wix Members areas, custom Velo code and form logic have no export. Each needs a Shopify app, a theme feature or a decision to drop it.

Customer passwords

They never move, on any platform. Shopify’s new customer accounts sign people in with a one-time email code, so imported customers just use their existing email address. No reset campaign needed, but tell them.

Lab note

limewash.pl, one of our own stores, sells 182 lime paint shades with a colour card, 250 ml testers, per-m² pricing and a material calculator. None of that is a default Shopify feature. It’s theme sections, metafields and a bit of logic, built on the Horizon theme. If your Wix store has a calculator, configurator or booking widget, expect the same: it gets rebuilt, not transferred.

Takeaway: list every widget and app on your Wix site before you get a quote. The list is the scope.

Wix to Shopify redirects: the SEO part

Wix product URLs look like /product-page/blue-mug. Shopify’s look like /products/blue-mug, and the prefix can’t be changed. Wix blog posts sit under /post/, Shopify’s under /blogs/<blog-name>/.

So every product and post URL changes. Without redirects, Google sees hundreds of pages vanish on the same day.

  1. Export every URL from your Wix sitemap and from Search Console (pages with impressions in the last 12 months).
  2. Map each old URL to its new Shopify URL in a spreadsheet.
  3. Keep the slugs where you can, so /product-page/blue-mug → /products/blue-mug is a clean one-to-one.
  4. Import the map as a CSV into Shopify’s URL redirects.
  5. Carry over titles and meta descriptions for products, collections and pages.

Here’s the thing most Wix owners don’t expect: a small store has the most to lose from a sloppy move. Fifty product pages with rankings is your whole organic channel. One missed redirect on a big store is a rounding error. On yours, it’s a bestseller.

Takeaway: redirects go live before the domain switches, not the week after.

The 14-day Wix to Shopify plan

This is the shape of a small migration (under 500 products, premium theme, no order history) run in parallel with a live Wix store.

Day What happens
1 Audit: products, options, apps, widgets, URLs. Scope and quote fixed.
2 Shopify store created, payments, taxes and shipping zones set.
3 Theme chosen and installed on a password-protected store.
4–5 Test import of products and customers. Counts compared against Wix.
6–8 Theme customized: home, collection, product, cart, about, contact.
9 Pages and blog posts moved. SEO titles and descriptions carried over.
10 Redirect map built and imported. Crawl test against preview.
11 Apps installed: reviews, email, anything replacing Wix apps.
12 Full test: orders, discounts, emails, mobile, checkout in every market.
13 Final delta import of products, customers and orders since the test run.
14 Domain pointed to Shopify. Old URLs crawled. Sitemap submitted.

After day 14, watch Search Console and 404s weekly for a month. Rankings may wobble for a few weeks; they should settle if the map is complete.

Takeaway: the import takes a day. The other 13 are design, redirects and testing, which is exactly why they matter.

Four mistakes we see in Wix migrations

Rebuilding the Wix design pixel for pixel. It’s tempting to recreate the old site exactly. Don’t. Your Wix layout was shaped by the Wix editor’s constraints. Use the move to fix what didn’t convert: a cluttered home page, product pages with no reviews, a mobile menu nobody can use.

Importing every Wix app’s job as a new Shopify app. Shopify does natively a lot of what Wix needed apps for: discounts, gift cards, basic email, markets. Every app you add costs speed and a monthly line on your bill. Replace functions, not apps.

Forgetting the small URLs. Product pages get redirected. The /shipping-policy page, the old sale landing page and the PDF size guide that a blog links to often don’t. Search Console’s list of pages with impressions catches them.

Switching the domain on a Friday. Something always needs a fix in the first 24 hours: a payment method, a shipping zone, a missing redirect. Switch early in the week, when you and your team are around to catch it.

Takeaway: a platform move is the one moment you get to rethink the store for free. Take it, but don’t let it turn into a redesign project with no end date.

What a Wix migration costs

Industry pricing guides (blackbeltcommerce.com, shopexperts.com) put small Wix or Squarespace migrations under 500 SKUs at roughly $2–8k. Where you land depends on design work and how many Wix apps need replacing.

Our Migration S is $3,500 for Wix, Squarespace or small WooCommerce stores up to 500 SKUs, 301 redirects included. The full breakdown is on the pricing page. Leaving WooCommerce instead? The WooCommerce to Shopify guide covers order history and plugins in more depth.

Your next step: list what your Wix store does

Before you compare tools or quotes, open your Wix dashboard and write down every app, widget and form your store relies on. That list tells you whether this is a two-week move or a two-month rebuild.

Send it to us on the migration page with your store URL and we’ll reply with a fixed price and a day-by-day plan. Not sure you’re ready to leave Wix? Run the free Store Scan and we’ll tell you honestly if you should stay.

FAQ

Questions merchants ask

Can I transfer my Wix store to Shopify?

Yes. Products, customers, pages and blog posts can be moved with Shopify's Store Migration app, a CSV import or a migration app like Cart2Cart or LitExtension. Your Wix design, apps and custom code can't be transferred and have to be rebuilt on a Shopify theme.

Will I lose SEO moving from Wix to Shopify?

Not if you set up 301 redirects. Wix product URLs use /product-page/ and Shopify uses /products/, so every product URL changes. Map each old URL to its new page and import the redirects before you switch the domain.

Can I move my Wix domain to Shopify?

Yes. You can either transfer the domain registration to Shopify or keep it where it is and point its DNS records at Shopify. Pointing is faster and is what most small stores should do on switch day.

Is Shopify better than Wix for ecommerce?

For a store that sells seriously, usually yes: deeper checkout, inventory, markets, B2B and a much bigger app ecosystem. For a portfolio or service site with a few products, Wix is often enough and cheaper to run.

How long does a Wix to Shopify migration take?

A small catalog can be done in about 14 working days if the design is built on a premium theme. Add time for custom features, large catalogs or order history.
